No three-peat for Oversee.net, the domain monetization champs??? Ohhh no!!!!!! :(

Oversee.net is without a doubt the largest and most successful company involved in the domain space since the early days. Most recently, 2007 and 2008 were amazing years for the company as they rolled in a whopping $417.5 million in revenues, increased their staff to something like 250 deep and made some very important strategic acquisitions in order to diversify their operations + revenue streams and continue business expansion, on their quest for complete market domination in the multi-billion dollar domain industry.

Here we are almost at the end of 2009 and things have changed big time! It doesn't look like they will have another record-breaking year unfortunately... They have cut their staff to something like 175 last I remember and the domain parking business is hurting real bad in general no matter from which angle you look at it. Things have been sucking since last year actually, so their amazing run has most likely come to an end way back then. I highly doubt that they will be able to once again roll in $200 million in revenues at the end of this year. Even $100 million would be a good result in this current environment.

Interesting Oversee.net financial's: 2003 Revenue: $10.4 million, 2004 Revenue: $37.3 million, 2005 Revenue: $77.2 million, 2006 Revenue: $124.6 million, 2007 Revenue $208.6 million, 2008 Revenue: $208.9 million, 2009 Revenue: A lot less!! :( As you can see they almost doubled revenues year after year since inception up to 2007... The following year was still an amazing year but they peaked and from there on it's only downhill.

It's a really amazing feel-good story though and I wish them all the best for the future... Here you have a couple of young 20 something year old's start with selling pop ups and text links in 2001 with PopUpSponsor.com + TargetWords.com and then get in early on the domain parking boom by launching DomainSponsor.com in 2002 and the rest is history! Rocked it...

Almost 7 years later they have probably paid out two to three billion dollars directly to domainers and have made a big splash in this business... Made a lot of people happy and filthy rich too. They had a great run!! Now the million dollar question is... What is next for Oversee.net??! They do have some full blown website's and standalone businesses such as LowFares.com and WeatherReports.com which are pretty popular and have lots of potential if only they were to focus on them and try to take them to the next level....

Oversee.net also has low.com, degrees.com, compare.com and many other great category killer domains and semi-developed website's but none of them seem to be getting much traffic or even run properly... Been neglected over the years. The wannadevelop.com website probably gets more traffic than all of those combined, on any given day. Their sites were setup for "show" if you know what I mean... Anyway's... I'll let them worry about their own biz :)

The guys over at Oversee.net are some of the brightest in the industry and know what is coming and I am sure they have been preparing for the past 1 - 2 years and re-structuring their various businesses and operations... Are you also??! NOOOO??! Have you even been paying attention to what is going on and what is yet to come.. You should!! The internet advertising / marketing landscape is forever changing and since 2007 there has been many shake ups.

Guess what??! The shake ups will continue. No stopping... It's called "evolution" my friends :) While it was a big surprise to some what has transpired in 2008, the smart ones are always prepared and didn't take that much of a hit. You should always have multiple back-up plans because in this crazy business of ours, one day everything is OK and the next all hell can break lose.

It can literally all change in the blink of an eye and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it as it is all out of your control since most of you do not have direct ad deals / feeds and the guy who actually pays you is merely a middleman / broker with very little pull. So, be smart... Always be prepared and well diversified with your online ventures. It's not very difficult and easy to get setup once you put your mind to it... So do not make excuses. Just do it. You will be glad you did. Better safe than sorry... You know how that goes :)
