The WannaDevelop.com website slogan or whatever you wanna call it is... "All about keyword domains, website networks and targeted traffic" so yea, I'd like to discuss in detail the power of keyword domains. A lot of people still don't get it unfortunately, especially the outsiders... It's crazy! I've talked about it before previously in various articles that have been published, but right now I'd like to specifically dedicate this article to keyword domains and talk about some of the advantages that you will enjoy once you have a targeted keyword domain name, preferably a dot com, for your online website / business.
I wrote an observation a few month's back titled Either they get it or they don't... The power of keyword domain names and eCommerce where basically I discussed the sale of an exact match keyword domain name to an "end-user" which was an ecommerce company. Now, I've sold my fair share of domain names since 2003... Many thousands of them actually. Since quitting domaining for good though (buying, reselling, parking) I've mostly dealt with end-user deals more or less.. The money is real good and it's much more exciting dealing with various companies rather than just the same ol' domainers. It's like fishing for gold... You never know who you gonna hook! Good stuff... :)
So anyways, it is always nice to see a company take one of the domains that you sold to them and actually put it to good use. The company discussed in the article mentioned above, 3tailer, bought the category killer domain HomeWeatherStations.com from me and re-branded their home weather stations online ecommerce business under this domain. Good move. Here we are now a few month's later and I am sure business is better than ever before. A lot more sales. A lot more traffic. Future looks pretty good too... Sweet!
They are already ranking top 10 for all of the "money" keywords at Google, Yahoo and MSN within their niche.... They are top five on average if you search for "home weather stations" and "home weather station" at the three biggest search engines. That is a nice boost of traffic right there.. Right?! The price of a good keyword domain will pay for itself exponentially if you know what you are doing with it and put it to good use. A lot of people still don't get it though. A lot of those small business owners and even fortune 500 companies are clueless. Ahh.. It's too bad, hehe, but you know what that means right?! Opportunities!
Lots of opportunities for people who do get it to capitalize on this. Big time! Lots of opportunities for "domainers" and the collectors of quality exact match domains that are two to three keywords long... If you got domains that are in-demand that make sense.... You got a nice payday down the road. Yup. For sure!! Sometimes they will approach you.. But most times you really have to take initiative and go out there and shop around your keyword domains. The art of domain sales explains all of this really so I won't get too much into this.
So anyways, a keyword domain of course helps you on a number of fronts. Firstly, it helps you become the "authority" on any given topic. The search engines will fall in love with your website if you have relevant content. The users will trust you more as well since you got the exact match keyword domain... The website and product / service offering on it must be the best, or at least one of the best... Right?! Yes, that is the exact logic. Dot com's have been heavily marketed since day one of the internet and billions upon billions of dollars later... They are the most desired and trusted extension in the world and always will be. Every business should rock a COM. It's business 101. Duh!!
3tailer bought the plural of the domain, HomeWeatherStations.com which is great.. But I also offered them the singular domain, HomeWeatherStation.com which they also should of grabbed. If you are running an online business on a generic keyword domain, you always want to control the singular, plural as well as all of the most popular typos of that domain. Also having the .net and .org versions of the domain won't hurt either. I mean.. It's only like $8 per year... The 10 or 20 domains you end up with is money well spent. 100% !!
What is a few hundred bucks spent each every year.. Peanuts!! Don't you want to protect your business and have peace of mind?! Or do you want to be a dumbass and leave the gate wide open for competitors to come in and make your life miserable.. Do you want to create confusion?! If you don't secure all of the variations of the domain name... You are just asking for trouble. Plain and simple it is an idiotic move. You will learn as you go though... It happens to all.
I personally try to control the keyword domains in every business if I am serious about it. This is why I have been building on-topic networks since 2002 and trying to own up my niches. You need to be aggressive in order to be successful! You need to play it smart and be two steps ahead of your competition... Because if you don't... You will get smoked!!
Unfortunately, 99% of ecommerce and online business owners still don't get domains at all, especially exact match keyword domains and not to mention the "cover your ass on all fronts " business strategy that I have described above. Oh well.. It's too bad. Even those young 20 something year old 3tailer guys don't get it who have a heavy marketing background... It's too bad but that is the sad reality. Still a lot of opportunities for the people who do get it and take advantage of what is going on. A lot of money to be made for domain resellers who are ready to go out there and get aggressive with domain sales.
Lots of opportunities for businessman and entrepreneurs who aren't afraid to spend a few thousand bucks on a good exact match keyword domain and create an online business on it. The #1 biggest investment that you should make as you are starting out in doing business online is picking out the best keyword domain that makes sense. It will make all of the difference in the world if you do... It will help lots, but it won't make or break your biz. Nope!
Many small - medium and even the biggest businesses in the world survive without having the exact match keyword domain names... They have been doing just fine without them all this years and will continue to do so. The domain only helps if you got a solid business strategy and you are in it long term. An exact match keyword domain will only help if you put in the hard work and you are serious about what you do. If you just throw up affiliate links or something like that... It's really not gonna do much good.
The domain name is one of those important variables that comes into play online. Choosing an exact match keyword domain will put you ahead by as much as 50% in front of your competitors. Seriously... Think about it! Is a few thousand bucks too much to spend for this?! Is 5 or 6 figures too much to spend on a good exact match keyword domain in a very competitive niche that will give you a quick boost in traffic and provide some additional perceived value to your service or product?! It's really not. The keyword domain name goes to work for you immediately!
The search engines love them.. The visitors love them... Your peers will hate you (which is great) soooo yea... Everybody is all about exact match keyword domains. Find the right ones.. Buy em, sell em.. Build on em... Just make sure you are messing around with the right domains. Do the research. Forget the .info .biz and all other up and coming gTLD's. They are a waste of time.
Stick to what works... DOT COM is king. There is .com and there is all the rest. For those with a tight budget, .net and .org work OK... But you should always and I mean always switch over to a DOT COM when and if you can. That's all you need to know. Exact match keyword domains in .com = success. They are worth a lot of money. There are many reasons that they are worth each and every penny.. Some are worth thousands, some are even worth millions!! :)
