There is .com domains and then there is everything else... All the other gTLD and ccTLD domains are just 2nd class. Nothing really compares to dot com domains because they get results, each and every time. It is the #1 extension in the world for a reason --- always has and always will be. There has been tens of billions of dollars spent on marketing dot com domains in all forms.
There has been tons of money spent on dot com domains both online and offline, essentially making it a household type of thing! This is what makes them so damn sexy. Everybody understands them and likes em too. Later on in this review I include a nice and interesting case study... So be sure to stick around for that and I welcome all feedback in regards to it as well... Thanks :)
Good keyword dot com domains are in high demand. There is a limited supply of the best of the best keyword domains, actually only one dot com for any one given keyword, so each dot com domain is very unique... Carries lots of value too. Visitors recognize them and "trust" them as do the search engines. It is prime real estate which everybody knows about but it's kinda subconsciously.
Most of the everyday people assume that an exact match dot com keyword domain would be the leader in that business / niche.. Offering the best of the best. Often times this is not true though. Most dot com keyword domains aren't developed and they are not anywhere close to being the best of the best by offering whatever product / service that keyword domain is directly related to.
Mostly it is branded dot com domains that are the undisputed leaders and #1 in their respective niche, but that is old news... So anyway's, having the exact match keyword domain is pretty cool though because you get type in traffic and instant recognition as well by the visitors. Search engines also really like exact match dot com keyword domains... Especially ones setup as active websites!
You get instant recognition by Google, Yahoo and Bing if you have the exact match keyword domain developed with at least some content... Google favors dot com domains the most out of the big three. Yahoo and BING spread the love equally for com/net/org and all the other junk, which isn't such a bad thing. So yea, anyway's.. I got a nice and quick case study to showcase here.
Earlier this year, in March, I found out about an SEO contest that would be going on... Basically, a made up keyword would be revealed on March 15 at a certain time and the contest would end on August 15 which is 5 month's later. The person that can rank #1 for that keyword on Google at the end of the contest will win $1000. There is prizes for the 2nd and 3rd spots as well. Anyway's.., I didn't enter this contest for the money. Could careless about it...
I entered the netbuilders.org sulumits retsambew contest because it would be a chance for me to experiment a bit which I am all about and see what other SEO experts are doing as well. It also sounded like a fun idea. So once the keyword was announced, I immediately registered the dot com. I had my registrar all ready to go and beat everybody else of course because I am fast like that! :)
I could of easily also registered the .net and .org domains, to make sure that my competitors don't get it and make things much easier for me to win this contest... But nah, I decided against it because I wanted to see how my dot com domain would do at the end VS. the net and org and all of the rest.
I currently hold the #2 spot on Google.com for the keyword sulumits retsambew with my domain SulumitsRetsambew.com and you are probably wondering so what did I do to get up there... Well, I spent no more than 5 mins to get it. All I did was register the domain, set it up right away with web hosting so that there is an active site... Wrote one quick paragraph consisting of like 20 words and a relevant title. Only three instances of the keyword mentioned, on-page, total.
I did all of this back on March 15. I have not done anything else since then. Nope.. I've let things play out because search engine optimization takes time. Nothing happens overnight. As you can see, there is over a million results for the keyword sulumits retsambew.. At the beginning of the contest, the top 10 results on Google would change many times per day because people were optimizing 3rd party sites via the social networks and all that crap.
Sure, those got ranked quickly, but they never last.. It's only a few days or weeks at most. The exact match keyword domains is what will stay at the top, for good... That is if you have relevant content on the site. It doesn't have to be a lot of content. It doesn't have to be the best content. There just has to be something there... Even a few words as you can see is good enough.
SEO is so damn easy, but most people have all this wrong impressions and ideas.. They simply can't figure it all out... Well, it all starts with the basics. A good keyword domain. Relevant content and then there is all the other stuff... But what matters most is the domain. It really helps having the dot com. It really helps having the exact match keyword domain in net or org as well.
There is lots of more advanced SEO techniques that can be deployed, but hey.. Why worry about all that? First the basics have to be taken care of, and I mean taken care of 100% because if you screw up with those... No amount of advanced SEO in the world will really help you. It won't take you to those places where you need to be. You will be stuck until you are able to figure out the basics and get them right.
Now, I entered the contest because I believed that I could win it... I don't do stuff that I don't believe I can be #1 in. It's just not how I roll... So, with only a few more weeks to go... What do I do to make the jump to the #1 spot on Google for the prized keyword Sulumits Retsambew? Well, I will probably setup a blog later this weekend and try to work my magic with that. Some content should definitely help. A dozen or so posts minimum is what I plan to do.
Google truly madly deeply loves dot com exact match keyword domains that are setup about the topic that the keyword deals with. They will show you a lot of love if you update your site consistently and keep it on-topic. The sooner you launch a website.. The better. It is never too late though. No matter how fierce the competition is... The dot com domains have great natural resources and a clear advantage / edge over all of the rest. Google wants to rank dot com's so why don't you give em the chance! Develop your sites. Do it do it do it... :D
It is worth it investing each and every penny you got in dot com domains.. Whether you are buying them or building them out. They are born winners. I still see so many great keyword domains available for sale at a few hundred bucks a pop daily... So many opportunities out there. One has to open their eyes and look close enough, in the right places. The domain industry is full of them. Go get em tiger! Oh and if you wanna help me win the contest, search on Google for Sulumits Retsambew and click on my site. That's all... Thanks!
