When you own one of the largest domain portfolio's in the world... 850,000 keyword domains to be exact and launch actual websites / blogs on a bunch of them.. Nobody really notices. I mean, what is 20,000 domains after all?! It only accounts for a few percent. No big deal. LOL. Well, anybody else who would of mass developed 20,000 domains the same way and launched them as is, it would of been really big news and made headlines but with NameMedia it is nothing new. They have been doing big things for almost 10 years now. Surprisingly there was no press releases or anything like that. This mass development of web sites is all kept on the down low.. Interesting huh?!
So as I was browsing around some random sites the other day and doing my usual research, I noticed lots of sites that looked similar. Very similar. After some quick research... I find out that all of this domains are owned by BuyDomains.com parent company NameMedia and that this new setup is brand new... Never seen it before. It looks like they have teamed up with a company called Mochila which offers services to website publishers, advertisers and content owners. They specialize in web development, content syndication, etc.
So who is this Mochila and where did they come from?! Not much information is available about them currently aside from their website... I tried to reach out to somebody over at BuyDomains and NameMedia as well as Mochila but nobody replied to my e-mails. In their own words "Mochila is the world's first and only online marketplace for syndicated content from hundreds of the world's leading content providers. Our marketplace includes millions of high-quality, rights-managed articles, photos, and videos covering everything from breaking domestic and international news to feature stories on topics such as health, business, entertainment, fashion, sports, science, tech and more. Mochila provides publishers with the opportunity to build their businesses; content owners new markets for their content; and advertisers access to highly engaged quality audiences."

For website publishers "Mochila is truly a one-stop shopping for content, offering free content and free publishing products (widgets), all of which are customizable and revenue-generating."
For advertisers "Mochila provides new way to really engage quality audiences in the context of trusted, high-quality content that is relevant to their brand message. Combining safety, quality and efficiency, Mochila delivers brands to audiences in the context of content those audiences know and trust."
For content owners "Mochila offers the world's richest inventory of high-quality, rights-managed content available for licensing. Many of the world's top content creators make articles, photos, and video available in the Mochila marketplace. For content owners, Mochila is a unique content factory."

Mochila uses proprietary technology to create a platform that meets the unique needs of content owners, publishers, and advertisers. The world's largest content syndication platform powered by an ad-based distribution model, Mochila helps content owners reach new markets, publishers build businesses, and advertisers reach highly engaged, quality audiences.
One of the things that I found most interesting about Mochila is the service they offer which is called "Micro-Site Engine" which looks like it is exactly what BuyDomains used to deploy all those 20,000 blogs / web sites. Mochila's scalable widget engine allows for quick, yet comprehensive content driven micro-sites. Through combined use of the widget engine, ad network controller, and content services, Mochila is your one stop digital media shop offering targeted design and content, editorial overview and seamless integration. I should note that I never used Mochila or know more about their operation. It definitely looks like they have a nice thing going here though.

It is good to see NameMedia pushing forward and testing out new stuff beyond just domain parking... Usually with all this widgets and automated platforms, the SEO sucks and there are various other challenges too but it is only the first step of the operation. Running web sites ain' t easy. Filling content en masse with RSS feeds is cool. Launching web sites en masse using custom content management systems and other tools is damn cool.
Making money with thousands or tens of thousands of developed web sites by generating the eye balls and traffic that can be monetized... Not so easy :) If it was only that simple where you launch a bunch of random web sites, throw up some content on it and job is done. Hehe.. Nope. There is lots more to it. It will be interesting to see what they do next with this domains... I hope they continue to improve and push forward. We wish them all the best... Development is where the money is of course. Like you didn't already know?!
