I'll be reporting news, views and developments from around the domain, advertising/marketing and search engine optimization biz right here. A lot of various findings about new and existing website networks and the important roll that keyword domains play within. Also important trends in online advertising and marketing as well as the direct navigation channel or in other words domain name game.
All of it is really tied together at the end of the day as simply put in order to have an edge in today's hyperactive world you have to know about proper website development, domains, and traffic acquisition... What if any is a better way to learn than to simply follow what others are already doing and are successful with? This has proved useful for me and I am sure it will help you too to solve certain problems and open your eyes quiet a bit as to what's really out there and how it should be done. So, Pay attention.

Wanna be part-owner of DomainState.com with myself and a few others? Ok, read this now...?!?!
So, here I am trying to organize and lead a Rick Schwartz and Sahar Sarid like effort to acquire not a domain name, but get this.. A domain forum! I am sure you remember the joint-venture which those guys setup in a matter of days to acquire Cowboys.com... Anyways, lets talk about the DomainState.com auction that is going to be happening later this week. It's important we do this... :)
I've been thinking about it a lot, talking to a few of my good friends and partners, crunching up numbers, doing market analysis, going back and forth...

FS gets it on with WP... It's about time, no??!?!
All of the websites are coming along nicely and I have a feeling that many more will be getting rolled out by the thousands soon! Have a look at examples such as ErectileDysfunction.com GastricBypassSurgery.com BuyStock.com CheapLifeInsurance.com FreeOnlineDegrees.com AffordableCarInsurance.com and so on. This is a huge step and in the right direction of course as far as web development goes by Frank Schilling of Name Administration Inc. First came short articles blended into parking pages which I reported on almost a year ago.. Then came a few full blown websites, some setup as standalone business directories...

If all else fails... Who is gonna pay the bills?!!
What do you do.. Hmm? Adsense... Casino... Stocks.. Pharma... Why not do it all?!! Pure genius right!? That is what Men.com does, man! The domain that was sold for $1.3 million by Rick Schwartz is a total failure today and a great case study. Look at it... Complete disaster, and we are being nice here and watching our words. God, I hate nothing more than to see good keyword domains first developed and then turned into linkfarms... Why why why??!

Frank Schilling has the winning formula $$$$$$
Slowly but surely Frank Schilling of Name Administration Inc is chipping away. Once a self-proclaimed "pure play domainer" he now turns to web development as an alternative solution to domain parking in order to acquire more traffic, direct advertisers and increase revenues exponentially across his multi-million dollar properties. Also another very good reason for going the "full blown" route and by investing in proper development of the domains... He is protecting his valuable assets from getting taken away from him in a blink of an eye by some slimeball of a company and the crooked UDRP process which doesn't...

The good ones hardly ever get noticed with all the crap out there.. Argh!
One of the domain industry's most important people has a frequently updated blog but apparently nobody gives a crap, or wait... Does anybody even know it exists??! Nope... The founder, president and chief operating officer of NameMedia.com has been blogging for close to 12 month's now almost daily but there is nobody even taking notice. No comments... No references. No nothing! Who is to blame though??! Doesn't really matter. We'll try to solve that right here and right now.. For good! :) You know, I like to think that I am in-the-know when it comes to domaining and anything that goes on in the domain industry...

Keyword domains + content + seo = $$$$$$$
Domain development couldn't be simpler if people only followed some of the guidelines! There really isn't anything involved in the process that is hard to do when it comes down to execution. It couldn't be easier in 2009. There is tons of resources to guide you step by step and the tools available are so straightforward that even 12 year old's are doing it and making more $$$ than you.. How embarrassing is that? No... I am not joking either! You suck heh :( Look man.. You pick out a good keyword domain, develop a website, put up content on it and then do...

NameMedia has over 110,000 awesome websites mass developed.. No stopping :)
This is a follow up on NameMedia.com / BuyDomains.com who own close to 1 million domains. About 3 month's ago I reported that they mass developed 20,000 of them in a short period of time. Well, they have been really busy goin at it. They now have launched over 110,000 interactive websites in just about every category that you can only imagine. Still the same setup however, done in the extremely popular blog style which works well overall. It's really impressive stuff. Being able to pull this off at this scale ain't easy!

Congrats for getting your cherry popped you!!
Man, I tell ya.. Everybody is a domain development pro all of the sudden it seems. The domain development boom is in full effect in 2009!! Domainers are slowly but surely building out their domains, however they can, which is great but I have one issue with all of this.. Something that is pretty damn annoying. I mean, it's nice that you got a website and I am sure you are very proud of your works but showcasing every "minisite" you develop is pretty ridiculous. All of this is reminding me of the domain name phenomena. You register bladkfsdsf.com and post all over the forums that you got the next big thing...

Frank Schilling's domains are being offered exclusively through ProFormaInc.com and Kevin Ham's through DomainBrokers.com --- now as I wrote here just recently about the domain industry... Shame on you Michael Sumner @ MiniSites.com
Well boys and girls.. It has happened again. Another competitor has ripped off my creatives / content. It's funny to see this happened because the domain development niche is tiny. There isn't that many developers out there to begin with. I can count them all on my fingers. Hell, I would only need my right hand because there isn't even five real domain mass development operations out there. Dumb move by Michael Sumner or whoever is responsible over there. So what content did they steal? What did they rip off from me??! Various creatives / ideas...

Yes, that is right... Some scandalous shocking news, reviews and controversy is very very good for business. Some of the most popular posts that I've published here that have received the most traffic and continue to receive the most traffic and drive the most sales consistently after many month's of getting published are some pretty "controversial topics" such as the billion dollar domain typos empire and exclusive insights and "revelations" of those domainer seo millionaires and so on. Frank Schilling and Navigation Catalyst Systems got domain parking all figured out
Frank Schilling is one of the hardest working people in the Domain Industry. As I've reported here previously over the 6 - 7 month's, he has been making a lot of changes to hundreds of thousands of his domains in trying to squeeze out better conversion rates by experimenting with content, more click through's by providing thumbnails next to the PPC ads and so on. Here we are once again and I have more changes to report in regards to the domain parking monetization setup that is deployed across all of his domain names.

Pretty much everybody just wants to have a good time and bullshit around as much as possible. There isn't all that many hard working, determined and dedicated individuals who are out to change the world and make a difference today.. Just admit it!! It's OK... Everybody just worries about themselves for the most part and the ones in their inner circle, which is fine. To each his own. Google AdSense custom search.. A powerful monetization channel that is often overlooked
One of the most powerful and proven monetization methods available to a website owner is the Google Adsense custom search but it is often ignored and unused. I don't know why!? Everybody is so used to those standard 468x60 and 250x250 units and whatever... I am sure they work for you and all that, but look.. Visitors are used to them as well. They have seen them everywhere too. Users don't like to click on ads. Period. They come to a site for the content offering and then quickly want to move on and go about doing whatever it is else they do on the internet. Whether it is talk to their friends or to check e-mail.. Going outside to play tennis or basketball, baking cookies, etc. Clicking ads?! Hah... Screw that!

I mean, what is 20,000 domains after all?! It only accounts for a few percent. No big deal. LOL. None of the domain blogs or sites wrote about Adknowledge's new service offering or even mentioned them anywhere. Nobody is talking about the service at any of the forums... I wonder why these mass developers don't just spend their time building their own sites...
The most popular question and type of comment in general that I see brought up often on a lot of forums and blog posts is the following "...wonder why these mass developers don't just spend their time building their own revenue producing sites, instead of offering such a low price service to others." which is a pretty good question, right? A lot of others will quickly jump in to the discussion with a response such as "the service is crap, stay away!" but without giving anymore details or "because it is a scam and for suckers" and so on. All of the newbies who have no clue are usually the ones running their mouth when it comes to this... They have nothing productive to add. Ever. They don't have the slightest clue as to...

HealthCare.com network has millions of content pages, millions of monthly visitors, hundreds of direct advertisers...and 400+ minisites too?!
HealthCare.com is a great business. The CEO of the company is Matias de Tezanos who I am sure many domainers already know from a while back. He has made headlines a bunch of times. Matias is one of the top young entrepreneurs / pure domain developers in the world and certainly one of the most successful latin american domainers of all time. One of the guys backing the HealthCare.com operations from the start and still heavily involved with the business is Rob Monster who just closed down one of his newer businesses, Monster Venture Partners, after burning through a little over $7,000,000 of his own personal money within two years on a bunch of website development projects. Marchex gives away free ad spots on some of their most high trafficked websites.. But why?!
One of the companies I've been following closely over the years is Marchex, who does some pretty cool stuff with domain mass development. They own hundreds of thousands of unique sites and have a majority of them developed, directory style. The sites are filled with relevant business listings. So I noticed last week that they rolled out a new setup. I am sure many will be surprised in regards to this latest move but I am not. I've actually been advocating and saying that this strategy works each and every time for many years now. It is refreshing to see some of the larger companies actually finally starting to get it and try out something new. Something so basic and a no brainer that has been overlooked.. Until now.

It's ok to fail and call it quits.. It's so easy and everybody is doing it too. Join the crowd!
Just the other week I went away for an extended weekend getaway down in Miami. So I wake up Friday a little after noon time in my 5 star room at a resort that is actually just a 10 minute walk from my condo in south beach (I get bored of it sometimes plus I was there the week before too) and my girlfriend tells me that something terrible had happened and that I should come watch the TV. Some crazy lunatic shot up a community center in Binghamton, NY. Now, I have many friends who go to school in Binghamton University. It's a popular university and has a large enrollment plus it's about three hours from where I live. This was really shocking and I was concerned. I got on the phone and made a few phone calls to make sure everybody is OK and to find out WTF is going on.

Traditional domain parking solutions are sucking big time this days. So, what do you do? Obviously something has to change and we must evolve because what worked yetserday isn't guaranteed to work tomorrow. In 2007 Sendori burst onto the scene and had everybody energized and was hyped up to be the next big thing or something like that for the domain industry and it's savior that it will increase payouts big time for quality type in domain traffic... Right. Well, it didn't exactly go down or live up to be to those expectations or what it should of but I actually like Sendori's strategy. Don't get me wrong. It did quiet well and probably went as far as they could of. They even got acquired by Ask.com which is owned by multi-billion dollar IAC. Very nice accomplishments...

Looking for pottery or mufflers? Got diseases or menopause!? Need the date and time? You should check your credit score online.. OK!?
Kevin Ham also known as "the man who owns the internet" and the Reinvent Media Group want you to check your credit score online... Badly! If you visit pottery.com or diseases.com, menopause.com, dateandtime.com mufflers.com and so on and so on there is a text link there right in your face that if you click on it.. It takes you to a parked page filled with credit score PPC ads. This is called traffic arbitrage. Classic! You take crappy traffic that doesn't convert well or traffic that the payouts suck for (really low, below 10 cents on average) and make an attempt to throw it at PPC ads that do pay well, usually a few dollars per click, hoping to get at least a few clicks here and there and squeeze out just a little more.

This person followed up shortly there after with some totally ridiculous non sense though which had to be removed and is now banned for good. Sucker! Over the past few weeks I've gotten a lot more abusive e-mails / comments than normal as well as haters submitting my e-mail addresses at porn newsletter subscriptions and some other shopping offers... Developers sure do know what they are doing! Domainers, not so much unfortunately..
There are many successful companies and independent developers as well who have portfolios that consist of 100's, 1,000's and even 10,000+ of on-topic keyword domain names that compliment their online businesses. Without them they wouldn't be what they are today. Those domains help drive targeted traffic and generate business directly without having to rely on third parties 24/7/365. Domains are considered as branches of ones business. So I would like to quickly profile two companies that have been staying on top of things when it comes to this concept that I mention above. It includes strategic acquisitions of on-topic keyword domain names, targeted traffic and business development.

Here we are in 2009 and the WWW or as most simply refer to it as the web has been around for 20 years strong... The internet had it's 20th birthday few days ago. Good stuff! Some of my more "geeky friends" had a big time bash down in an NYC club to celebrate. Unfortunately I had to work it up so couldn't make it. Seriously.. Marchex domain parking pages get an update
So it looks like Marchex is now using thumbnails next to PPC ads on their parking pages as well. I first reported seeing this new feature rolled out on some of Frank Schilling's parked domains a few weeks ago but few days later once I published the story the thumbnails were gone, in other words taken off of the parked domains completely. Now I come across some domains owned by Marchex and noticed that they are using the same setup but it's done a lot better. I wrote two month's ago about this updates getting rolled out sooner than later this year. So anyways, Frank Schilling just had six of his own static images rotate next to PPC ads #1 through #5. Marchex has a better and smarter setup.

Millions of ccTLD keyword domain names waiting to be registered
So there is all this buzz about country code specific domain names as of late, in other words; keyword ccTLD domains and all the potential they may have. It's true.. They do have a lot of potential once developed, as do any other keyword domain name and they do receive some natural/organic type in traffic as well. But why is there such a "land rush" all of the sudden for them? Why is the spotlight suddenly on international domain names?! Is there really a great opportunity here to invest in and then wake up a year or two later much richer without doing nothing? That is the type of stuff that is floating out there.. It's all hype though for the most part unfortunately... Let me explain why. The ccTLD domains have been around forever. They are nothing new..

Guess what... eNom has got the most annoying parking pages out there with right in your face pop up ads on their domains as soon as you wanna leave
So I'm looking through some of my domain lists and I visit one of my domains which looks like it expired a while back and eNom kept for themselves, obviously because it has traffic... I had it developed for a couple of years. Forgot to renew... Oops! It happens.. So anyways, the domain is rafaelnadal.org and I discover something pretty interesting. A new and unique domain parking setup. Very annoying... Visit the domain and see for yourself. As soon as you try to click back or close the window, it will pop up a window and cancel out that action and ask you to either confirm your exit, click on an ad or stay on that page and continue to browse pay per click ads from Yahoo. I don't recall seeing this type of setup on any parked domain page... Ever! It works in both...

Either they get it or they don't... The power of keyword domain names and eCommerce
I recently dealt with a start-up company called 3tailer, I had sold them the domain name Home Weather Stations dot com last month. I approached them first with the pitch. I didn't really get the price that I was looking to get for that domain, it was actually 5x less, but I ended up selling it and still for a nice profit at that so it's all good. It was more than a grand. I liked what the guys were all about at first glance so they got a great deal without a doubt. It was win-win for all. 3tailer bargained hard but they got the deal they wanted. They countered and I accepted without dragging things out. Quick and easy. In their own words 3tailer is a company... Domain typos and the billion dollar empire.. Everybody is set to cash in on it! Why not?!

It can however be delayed but it will happen sooner than later. You can count on that. But when?! Who knows!! What I do know is that for now, everybody is set to cash in on it. Starting from Google and Yahoo, as well as all of the dozens of domain parking companies powering the millions of TM and problematic domain names. The domain name industry is so full of it... Really!
Everybody by now I think already is well aware of the fact that the domain industry is so full of opportunities. It has been really good to many people who got involved early on around the year 2000 and into 2001 as the dot com bubble burst and have become instant millionaires thanks to investing in domain names... Well, not really "instantly" like the next day but once they picked up a certain amount of domains it was clear that there would be a lot of money and big payouts down the road. The seeds were planted. They knew it... Some people have become multi-multi millionaires within a few years of being involved in the domain game within a relatively short wait period and few have even accumulated wealth well into hundreds of millions of dollars in the golden days chasing drops and buying out smaller players/porfolios. That is just great! Amazing...

The next big thing to happen in the domain parking game... Can you guess what it is?
Google has opened up and now directly accepts clients to park their domains with them via the AdSense service... This was both good and bad news, really depends on how you look at it --- but what about Yahoo? Do they have anything in the works? Have they been working on a new product or a better and more improved solution for the domain channel?? Surely the brainiacs over there want to improve the click through rates, conversions and such... I hope! It will add to their bottom line as well as bring in more business. If there was ever a time to do so, it is now, like right this moment now. Well, I have a feeling that something is going to be announced real soon from Yahoo.

Domain Newbies and Junkies... When is enough, enough?
What are domain newbies and domain junkies up to this days and is there any difference between these two types of domainers and their activities? Sure there is... Domain junkies are those domainers that badly want to be involved in the domain game, and have a "large" portfolio so they can fit in with the rest of the "cool" kids on the block who in this case are the veterans who have been around for years... They sort of try to buy their way in and earn some kind of respect by having many names. It's the who has the biggest.....You know what...type of scenario. Domain junkies have collections of all kinds of mostly worthless weak keyword domains, probably 95% consisting of usually hundreds of odd and unheard of ccTLD vanity type domain names, acronym and numeric com/net/org domains with supposedly all this potential for end users and development.
