Blogging is fun, interesting and sometimes…… WTF?

A lot of fun and interesting stuff happens behind the scenes for those who blog… I  do get a lot of  feedback publicly and privately on just about every post I make on here. Some of the comments are just plain hilarious and make my day. Makes for a really good laugh… I received this the other day for example: hi there, one of your posts recently inspired me to purchase a domain name that I think is worth a lot of money, my question is, do you think I should use the name to point traffic at my existing companies products or sell...

.XXX domains available dirt cheap +++ Get 4-for-the-price-of-1 ?!??! :)

.XXX domains available dirt cheap +++ Get 4-for-the-price-of-1 ?!??! :)

For about another two weeks dotXXX domains will remain heavily discounted. You can find them for as low as $8.99 per new registration compared to 1 1/2 years ago when the new gTLD was originally introduced each registration would run  you anywhere from $80 to $150 if not more, depending on which registrar you choose to do business with and what type of bulk pricing you qualified for. Now even at $80 a pop, it was a lot of money and it could quickly add up to thousands of dollars for just a handful of domains. Big gamble… But thanks to...

Re-selling domains is as easy as 1-2-3

Re-selling domains is as easy as 1-2-3

At this point in time, it’s pretty much as easy as it has ever been buying domains and then re-selling (flipping) them for a multiple that you are happy with. There are more brokers, auction sites and various other specialty marketplaces than there has ever been. Simply put, the resources and tools that are available right now for domain investors are vast and there seems to be more and more of these popping up every other day. So yea, that is definitely good news… Selling domains is pretty straightforward in this day and age. Just...

Tweeter.com will be auctioned off next week..

This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a very special type of domain. Why? Because nowadays you rarely see quality high trafficked domains such as Tweeter.com coming up for auction… But come Monday, you will have the opportunity to be the new proud owner of Tweeter.com, Tweeters.com, Twtr.com, and other Tweeter related domains thanks to Hilco Streambank who will be conducting an online auction of multiple domains and some trademark intellectual property on behalf of it’s clients who seem to be looking for an...

New gTLD’s = SLUTS!

New gTLD’s = SLUTS!

Recently I had an in-depth convo with another domain industry insider who is heavily involved with the roll-out of a couple of new gTLD’s that will be “wildly popular” so obviously he is all for them and they are the next great domaining goldrush is what he proclaimed… Me? I am neutral on the case. I think there is definitely going to be some opportunities to make $$$ with these new domains if you know what you are doing but overall I think all these soon-to-be-available new gTLD’s are sluts. Period. Sluts??!...

SnapNames & NameJet inventory sucking…

SnapNames & NameJet inventory sucking…

Yep… It’s really sucking a lot as of lately which I am sure you have already noticed, and this explains the sharp traffic/activity declines on both sites. If you go back to just a year or year and a half ago and examine the traffic levels (thanks to Alexa.com) you will see a huge decline of 50% to 75% at least… But what I am wondering is where will this trend bottom out? Why are people abandoning the sites and the most important question is where are they buying good domains if not on SN/NJ??! Well, pretty much all of the...

Yup… Back from the dead

Hello everybody! Good to be back. Sorry for not updating the blog in the last few month’s… Lots going on behind the scenes which you probably could care less about, so I will save all the details.. But with that said — Yup I am officially back to blogging. Going to try to pick things up right where we left off. There is always lots going on in the domaining business and overall a ton of opportunities are still up for grabs if you are game. Lots on my mind and other things that need to be covered and put out there…. Need...

Well, it looks like Kevin Ham’s DomainBrokers.com has jumped on the latest craze in the domaining world of offering the option of renting a domain. Visitors who land on any of Kevin Ham’s domains now can either straight-out buy a domain or rent it, apparently for as little as $50/month with the minimum term being 3 month’s.     It’s interesting to see some of the largest portfolio holders in the world now offering some of their domains for rent/lease… Certainly there has been lots of buzz over the past...

DomainSherpa’s 100th video update is here…

It’s a huge milestone for DomainSherpa.com and I want to personally congratulate Michael Cyger and the entire DomainSherpa team! In the very chaotic and often misunderstood domaining world, it’s rare to find new-comers to this business with such great interest and passion that Michael Cyger often exhibits… I think this has been a perfect match made in heaven if you know what I mean Next month, DomainSherpa will be turning 2 years old officially. WOW!! Time flew by. Nowadays, it’s hard to come by a good blog or any...

Still buying domains on the aftermarket/auctions… ?

Hahahah!! If so, then you are a FOOL. Look, I have been cutting out the middleman (SnapNames, NameJet, etc.) for a while now and in the process saving A TON OF MONEY! Why overpay on domains 5x, 10x or more and involve yourself in a stupid auction with potentially dozens or hundreds of other domainers when you can snag the domain in private directly from the owner and do so on the cheap. Sounds too good to be true? It’s really not. Looky here… I know not too many people talk about this practice out in the open like I’m about...

Rick Latona — Alive?

Rick Latona — Alive?

Not that long ago, for those who remember… Not a single day would seem to go by that Rick Latona’s name wasn’t being plastered in tons and tons of domaining blogs headlines, and his various domaining related business ventures being discussed all over the forums, etc… But lately Rick Latona has pretty much been a ghost as far as any activity in the public eye if you were to look him up on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter or even his own once popular and active blog site at RickLatona.com. Just recently...

Domaining videos never really seem to take off.. WHY?!

Over the past 2 – 3 years there have been a handful of domainers trying to put out videos consistently, but the end results always seem to be the same: they never really take off and gain a lot of popularity. That’s just a fact, if you look at the YouTube channels of Michael Gilmour, Simon Johnson, Michael Cyger, Adam Dicker, Morgan Linton and Patrick Ruddell. Below are the direct links to the videos published by these six people, sorted by popularity; most viewed to least. I don’t really seem to remember anybody else off top...

Bob Parsons reveals “The NEXT REALLY BIG THING”

Over the weekend I watched Bob Parsons latest video blog post. To quickly summarize the update which happens to come in at #50 Bob reveals how to get in on the action; “Bob shows you the biggest and most positive change to hit the internet since it began. It’s going to be huge. Lots of opportunity. Billions of dollars are up for grabs.” So what exactly is GoDaddy’s Founder and Executive Chairman talking about here? New gTLD’s such as .web, .store, .app and so on, right?! Nope… Guess...

Headsets.com becomes man’s last name.. LOL

As of January 1st 2013 Jason of IWearYourShirt.com has officially and legally become Jason HeadsetsDotCom… At least for 1 year. He auctioned off the legal name change/rights a few weeks ago and there were a couple of serious interested parties that were willing to pony up some big bucks. The winning bidder was Headsets.com at $45,000. Sounds crazy? It may be… But it happened!     Oh the crazy world we live in today… Wonder if this is going to become a whole new trend in 2013 and beyond where people start changing...

Some new gTLDs will cause massive chaos/confusion…

It seems that at least once or twice per week, over the last couple of month’s, that clients will e-mail and ask me directly “Mike! Which soon to be released gTLD’s are the best??!” so  in other words, what’s investment worthy. Well, there is a bunch of them that obviously stand out from all the rest such as .web, .shop, and so on… But these soon to be released “domainer favorite” new gTLD’s are going to stir up some massive confusion and chaos along the way, once launched. I bet you .shop...

[POLL] Domain registration prices advertised as a monthly fee — how about that?!

[POLL] Domain registration prices advertised as a monthly fee — how about that?!

Hmm… Confusing, right? All domain registrations require a 1 year term at minimum last I checked, but here we have German based DD24 (DomainDiscount24.com) advertising rock bottom prices at or around a dollar/euro but in the small/fine print it says the fees are per month and not the standard 1 year, so at checkout you get a nice surprise x12 per domain if you don’t carefully read everything. LOL! What do you think about that? Sure had me fooled first time around, and likely many others as well. Annoying to say the least. In the...

DD24 offering some really nice deeply discounted domain registration deals [UPDATED]

Most of the discounted domain registration deals I’ve posted in the past are available to clients in USA/Canada only. Those are some pretty nice deals for new domain registrations if you ask me It seems that .CO and .ME have been doing pretty good on the aftermarket lately, so if you can find some decent keyword domains in either...
