When the economy went south last year I wanted to do something to help out somehow. At least in the industries that I was involved with. Even if it was only to reach out and help a few people with their businesses because we are facing challenging times in 2009. People could use all the help they can get. So I decided to setup a website and share some of my ideas, experiences and knowledge on a few subjects I am familiar with. A few individuals really inspired me to go about doing so and committing myself 100% to this "project" the way I do with this website currently. One of them is Frank Schilling. Legendary domain investor and very successful businessman who came up in early years of '2000. He invested a lot of his time and energy in running the seven mile blog recently. So I'm thinking, if Frank Schilling did it... So can I.
Frank Schilling blogged from February of 2007 up to March of 2008. He had a very good run for exactly one year. I read most of his posts daily and really liked his writing style which was pretty raw --- he kept it real. He shared experiences from the early days of domaining as well as a lot of predictions and such. On my website, I do a lot of the same things that Frank Schilling did on his blog. We both have the same style, kinda... Lots of rawness and similarities overall. I am not Frank Schilling of course or have had the success that he has but I have plenty to write about and share... Not enough time actually to put out there everything that I would like to. But that's the way it goes. The good news is that I won't be stopping anytime soon :)
Anyways, another two people who inspired me to write at length and not just a few vague paragraphs on random subjects like most bloggers do these days are Aaron Wall of SEO Book and Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz. Two wonderful search engine marketers who are at the top of their game. I've been following their blogs and business ventures for years. They are very open about their strategies and share a whole lot of insight into their business operations and findings. Their blog posts are pretty comprehensive and include many case studies and useful data. I try to include as much information as I can gather per topic as well and break things down for everybody to clearly understand it.
Some people have complained to me and expressed their frustration because some of the writings I've put out there are way too long. Well, usually they are a few thousand words long. Yep... Kinda long. I know! Some of them consist of like 5,000+ words. But there is a lot to be said. No summarizing or shortcutting the important stuff. I'm not gonna do that! When I start writing about something... A whole lot of information begins to process in my head / flow out and I try to put it in text accordingly the best way I could that actually makes sense. I also do not like to do too many edits and re-writes. Waste of time. The way it comes out is usually the way it gets published. Can never please everybody so I won't bother.
I've gotten a lot of positive feedback from people over the past few month's. People from all over the world based in countries that I never even heard of or seen on the map that are sending in thank-you's daily. It's really great and I appreciate it very much. It is what drives me and motivates me to keep on writing and sharing. As long as there are people out there who find the information useful, I feel like my job is being done and the task that I set out to do is taken care of. It's not always about the money or the fame. It's about helping each other when needed most. Times are changing big time right under our noses and collaboration is more important than ever before in our e-biz.
I hope that people are able to take the information provided, apply it to their business and achieve all their goals in the long run. Everybody of course has many different goals and their own habits but we all learn from each other at the end of the day. It is very important to share and keep the free flow of relevant information with your peers. Both good experiences and bad experiences. We put it out there and let whoever make whatever they want from it. It's better to have information than not to have it. That is the way I see it and I am a strong believer in this principles. I am not a big fan of censorship and/or secrecy. I am trying to do my part... What about you?
