I like to think of myself as a pretty creative individual. I have been successful with a lot of my internet based ventures over the years for the most part because I am able to think outside of the box and then execute. But you know, sometimes you have to realize that things just are not meant to be and move on. Sure, it may look good on paper and whatever but when you actually get to it... Well, doesn't always play out as you had originally thought or wanted it to. Planning is one thing... But making it work, a lot tougher... Totally different!
In just a week or so from now.. Starting June 1st, 2009 I am going to be taking on the biggest challenge yet. I can't really go into too much details right now but it's going to be very cool and pretty interesting. Nothing like it has been done before in the domain industry... Ever! You know, the cool thing about this WannaDevelop.com website that I have been running for a little over 6 month's now is that I get to reach out and interact with a lot of people from all walks of life. As of May 2009 there is 1,000 visitors on average stopping by each and every day. I can experiment with some stuff and collect lots and lots of data.
Some of my failures with WannaDevelop.com include the "domain mass development contest" which I held earlier, mid January. I got a dozen or so submissions and pretty much a majority of them didn't even qualify to begin with because the guys who submitted their domains didn't even bother to read the rules. It was frustrating to see this happen but such is life. I did get one guy, who submitted a bunch of his domains which indeed were "OK" domains and qualified, etc.. But this is what happened after I notified him that he was the contest winner and sent over congrats his way... This was the reply I got:
Mike I apologize for wasting your time, but I didn't do too much research on your site before I submitted my names. Your contest was suggested by a friend and I hurried to get in the names before the deadline. Upon further research, I realized that you promote pornography on your site, which I will have nothing to do with. You see, porn just about ruined my marriage, and I don't want to have any affiliation with such an exploitative industry. My reading in Proverbs 22 this morning starts with: A good name is to be chosen over great riches", and indeed, I would rather have the favor of God than to earn great sums pursuing evil plans.
So, while I appreciate the opportunity that you've offered, I must
respectfully retract my entry from your contest. I wish you the best, but hope too, that you choose the best for yourself.
Regretfully,
--

Hehe.. You can't make this stuff up guys. So whatever, shit happens. I guess it was not meant to be, right?! I spent time and money promoting this contest, researching the domains submitted, etc. I tried to make it work but nope. Nothing happened with it. Big waste of time for the most part. I did learn a few important lessons though. I won't deny that it was a failure, because it was, and the results were terrible but at least I learned a thing or two. So it's OK.
Another failure came a little over a month ago when I tried to generate some buzz and momentum within the domainer / blogger community for my "best post of the year" which really went nowhere... Maybe like 5 people in total linked up to me and followed the instructions. It was just terrible. I tell ya... At the beginning, when I originally came up with the idea, I was really confident that I'd get some decent traffic and provide what I had promised and people can take the information and run with it. Nope... It didn't play out like that unfortunately. Everybody wants the info but nobody wants to help out.. Ahh!!
So, a month goes by and I am thinking to myself.. What the heck, I'll make at least some of the info from what I had originally planned to share with everyone in the post of the year, why not right?! So I went ahead and wrote up an article that consists of a few pages that is titled "from nowhere to be found to top 5 in google, yahoo and msn" and towards the end of the article I wanted to experiment one more time and see what will happened. So I asked for people to simply e-mail me for more "secrets"... But there was a twist to it :)
So do you need help or are you all set to conquer the world now?! Would you like to find out specifically what you need to do, with what websites / tools and how... Sure thing: simply e-mail me and I'll clue in and help out the first 100 people. I got some good stuff to share. You are gonna love it, I know it. Better hurry....
Basically, everybody who e-mailed me got an auto-responder message which I quickly put up. How many people in total e-mailed me? Hehe... 13! Close to 2,000 people read the article since it was published a few days ago but only 13 actually e-mailed me... Hmm?! Probably not too many read the whole thing to read that last part at the end?! Maybe everybody reading the site is already SEO geniuses... Well, whatever. I doubt it... But Ok! This is the content of my auto responder e-mail message that went out to those 13 people:
Hi there and thanks for writing.. This is an auto-responder message from Mike over at WannaDevelop.com -- So sorry I am not able to personally reply to each and everyone of you but here it goes;
So, you need some help with making sense of link acquisitions and all that stuff.. Right!!? Ok, read on...
I'll be offering exclusive tips and advice to ***25*** individuals who read my blog on a first come first serve basis sometime next week.
I wasn't sure of how much to price this thing at so we'll just do $1000 even. It's a good number, don't you think?
Look, the information that I've already shared is invaluable.. Nobody and I mean nobody wants this information to be made public or even praised because it simply works like magic and people try to keep it on the hush hush. But it is only the half of it!
You know, most of the SEO and internet marketing experts will never bring it up or just dismiss it as not worth the effort. They don't recommend to get involved with aggressive link building as an SEO strategy because it is risky and there may be some consequences (DUH!) --- but that is only if you really screw it up. I'll offer you some tips and tricks to make sure you don't screw up as long as you follow a few important rules / guidelines.
The second and most important part is actually the execution. You need to know what type of research to gather and what websites / tools to use in order to carry out the analysis and research processes properly. If you can't determine 100% what links to go after, you will just waste your own time and money. I've seen this happen too many times. It's so sad :(
For $1000 this is what I'll offer:
- Not one.. not two... not three.... but ***FIVE*** proven methods to find the best websites in your niche to buy links from
- One on one consultation... no, I won't be there to hold your hand 24/7/365 but I will be there to answer all your questions via e-mail for up to 30 days in regards to link building / acquisitions
- And last, tips on how to approach website owners when you are buying advertising spots from them; banners / links, how to bargain and get the most bang for your buck and so on... Look, I've been doing this for years, so I have some EXCLUSIVE stuff to share
So basically I will let you know what works and what doesn't.
If at least 15 - 25 people reply back to me and agree to pay $1000 via PayPal for the offering above, I'll go ahead and record a couple of video tutorials, write up a few step-by-step guides and make this available sometime next week.
Now, I've never wrote an ebook or sold anything like that... But trust me when I say that this $1000 will be the most important investment that you will ever make as far as webmastering and SEO goes because with it you will be able to get on the fast track.
Nobody else is going to tell you how this works and help you each and every step of the way. I am looking for no more than ***25*** individuals to guide/mentor or whatever you wanna call it.
50% off of the sales I am donating >>> http://www.wannadevelop.com/articles/summer-play-fun-business/
50% off of the sales I am spending on buying links for >>> http://www.wannadevelop.com
So lets see how this goes... If this gets some action and hits my target 25, I may do another few of this offerings next month with stuff that you won't ever find anywhere else.
E-Mail [removed] if you are seriously interested. Put in the subject "wannadevelop.com"
Below are some of the e-mails that I received... Oh yea, pretty much all of them with the exception of 2 or 3 came from free hotmail/yahoo/gmail addresses from a bunch of anonymous / nobody's... Great. Just my type of crowd. LOL... Not :(

Hi.
I operate a site called [removed] that features [removed].
Any tips on how i can get a top listing for the search term "[removed]"
Thanks.
and so on and so on.....
So yea, that is another big failure.. Guess how many from those 13 people actually replied the second time around?! Guess how many were going to take me up on the offer? LOL. Yup.. A cool zero. Well, there is another experiment that has failed miserably. Three of them now in 2009.. Ouch. Hurts!! Sooo... I don't know whether it is me doing something wrong or whether I am just dealing with a very picky and tough crowd but whatever it is... I have kinda had enough and will be doing just one more "experimental" venture related to the domain industry and from there on I'll just focus on more important stuff.
I've tried my best and as much as I could. You can only try so many times after all said and done though because the big time failures start to bother you and it gets pretty annoying. I haven't lost any sleep or anything like that over this stuff because every move I make is a calculated risk and I know it. I don't just do something for the hell of it... Everything is well planned more or less but I never imagined that the results would suck so bad. So, anyways... Gonna go out with a bang here hopefully... Maybe?! Who knows! Wish me luck though :)
